The pony art continues! I just cross posted this to my tumblr (GO LOOK AT MY TUMBLR. FOLLOW ME BECAUSE I'M AN ATTENTION WHORE : D [link] ), and my tumblr description was pretty damn good! So I'm just going to copy it here!
I reeeeally wanted to do a Princess Luna piece (I think her design is lovely), and “Green Isn’t Your Color” made me want to do something with pony dresses (Holy crap that one Fluttershy dress. I want a person version of it.)
Since I didn’t know what I really wanted, I asked my good friend Allison for some dimensions to work in, and she thought an extreme horizontal would be nice, sooo I did.
Tying it all together…well…Luna at Rarity’s shop made perfect sense, but somehow the Crusaders keep sneaking their way into my drawings. Little rascals. (lawl)
For Luna’s dress I pulled the color from her eyes to the main fabric. The sash and appliques are not set in stone, but, as you can see, it’s a work in progress and the colors can be changed if Luna wishes.
**EDIT**
Holy crap you guys! I never thought this silly drawing I put too much effort into would be so popular! I'm kind of blown away by it all : D Thank you all so much for you views, faves, group adds, collects, and watches!!
I'm really proud of this in spite of its silliness and I especially appreciate all of the comments from people who thought this was actually from the show/looks just like it! (Not that any of the rest of your comments are any less dear to me -- the positive feedback from this piece is almost overwhelming!)
Thanks again and I hope you continue to enjoy my pony art : )
****SECOND EDIT****
HOLY CRAP. As I write this, this piece is at nearly 10,000 pageviews. o_O Thank you so much (again!) for all the adds, faves, views, and shares. It really means a lot to me!
***THIRD EDIT*** (March 2012)
Wow! I'm still kind of blown away by the number of views, favorites, and collection additions this piece has received. I'm so happy that it's brought so many people a little more cheer in their days! I'd also like to thank everyone who added this picture to a group. At this point it's a member of 21 and counting, and I didn't add any of them myself! So thanks again, guys, for being awesome.
it does look incredibly close to show footage... but the only thing you would have to work on is a very... very minor set of proportion issues to get them direct from the show correct. however, i still believe you have done an excellent job with the piece.
I appreciate the critique, too! However, that said, I'm not as concerned with getting things perfectly show accurate, just in trying to have fun with the drawings, which I did!
If you go through and look at all my pony pieces (which there are a silly number of), some of them are more show-accurate than others. The style is so easy for me to emulate, that a lot of the time I don't bother with reference (especially for OC ponies or adaptations of non-pony characters), or if I'm really familiar with the character model (Fluttershy), I don't always bother with reference, and sometimes it shows. But if you even go through Lauren Faust's pony art, it doesn't look quite like the show, because they're not hand drawing the ponies or backgrounds -- they're using flash puppets and set pieces : )
